Internal Control and Fraud Prevention

How does your organisation manage fraud risk? Do you know that according to the Association of Certified Fraud Examiner’s 2014 Report to the Nations, a typical organisation loses 5% of revenues each year to fraud? If applied to the 2013 estimated Gross World Product (GWP), this translates to a potential projected global fraud loss of nearly USD 3.7 trillion!
Based on the cases surveyed in the Report, approximately 77% of the frauds were committed by individuals working in one of seven departments: accounting, operations, sales, executive/upper management, customer service, purchasing and finance. Is fraud happening in these departments in your organisation?
The Report also showed that victim organisations which have anti-fraud controls implemented were able to detect frauds much more quickly and costs were significantly lesser as compared to organisations lacking these controls.
